About Stawi

Empowering communities to shape their own future

Stawi Development Initiative is a community-driven, non-profit organization committed to promoting sustainable development and improving the livelihoods of vulnerable communities in border regions of Eastern Uganda.
Our story

Communities at the centre of their own development

Stawi Development Initiative is a community-driven non-profit in Namisindwa District, working to improve livelihoods and build resilience among vulnerable borderland communities.

We were founded to confront the challenges holding these communities back — economic vulnerability, limited access to markets and finance, climate shocks, poor water and sanitation, and the hurdles of informal cross-border trade.

Our approach puts people first: we empower women, youth and marginalised groups with the knowledge, skills and opportunities to become self-reliant, resilient and productive — active architects of their own development.
